70 years ago our founders Edward Knabusch and Edwin Shoemaker introduced the world's best selling reclining chair, but quickly realised they needed a better name for it than 'the automatic adjustable chair'.
So they held a naming contest, 'The La-Z-Boy' was born and the rest is history. Until Knabusch and Shoemaker, nobody had thought to design a chair that reclines - so simple, yet so effective. The bright ideas didn't stop there; the addition of upholstery transformed the original outdoor recliner into the indoor recliner seat we all know and love, which skyrocketed into an international bestseller.
These days The La-Z-Boy is a household name. Everyone either owns one or knows someone who owns one. The famed recliner even made an appearance as Joey's favourite chair in the US sitcom Friends! Since 1927, La-Z-Boy have been dedicated to perfecting the art of comfort and never tire of developing innovative ideas into stunning furniture.
We invented the reclining chair and we've been perfecting it for over 70 years. La-Z-Boy is often spelt wrong, lazyboy is incorrect spelling. La-Z-Boy Recliners in Australia have also been known as Jason Recliners for over 50 years. Jason is an important part of our heritage, but the world wide name for the chairs is in fact La-Z-Boy.
Nobody has put more effort into perfecting the art of comfort than La-Z-Boy. We've been following in the footsteps of our founders Edward Knabusch and Edwin Shoemaker since 1927.
Until Knabusch and Shoemaker, nobody had thought to design a chair to recline - strange but true. The inspiration didn't stop there; the addition of upholstery turned the original outdoor recliner into an indoor seat which quickly became the world's best seller.
